Covid – Relief Programme
During the Covid 19 period, the communities inside SGNP were in dire straits indeed. Just like the whole world, everything came to a close, which meant that we had to choose between completely closing our activities altogether or finding a way of sustaining in the hard times. We had to think about how these communities would survive months and months of lockdown and have no means of income.
We decided to start making masks from textile waste and gave women and youth the opportunity to work from their own homes by supplying machines to each home. This gave them encouragement and hope at a time there none in horizon.
At the second lockdown period, we took permissions to start our tailoring unit where our women could come and work under health and hygiene laws and be able to make more masks in bulk so that we could supply the market that was demanding masks at the time. This also increased our production capacity and gave the women the confidence to earn more money.
At that time, it came to our attention that the hamlets and it’s inhabitants were in dire shortage of food and grains and we started a food donations drive wherein we made sure most of the people inside SGNP were supplied food, grains, soaps and other necessities at this crucial period.
We came together with other organisations and sponsors where we collected items of use and made sure the communities were well taken care of in their own homes.
Seva charitable trust has always been open to serve Mother Earth and wildlife and natural habitats, working together with tribal communities living inside forest areas. This time, we were there to serve the communities we work with to make this happen.
